Certification Partnerships

Mine to Make a Difference

We are proud of the partnerships we are forging with stakeholders such as EARTHWORKS, Yukon First Nations, and Yukon government departments and agencies.  We believe these partnerships demonstrate our commitment to the principles of the Golden Rules and our genuine intent to work with others; to ensure transparency in our certification program, to gain new knowledge and encourage further development.  We will use these partnerships to bring improvements to our program and ultimately additional benefits to the Yukon placer mining industry, Yukon communities, and the end consumer who chooses: Mine to Make a Difference.

EARTHWORKS

EARTHWORKS is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting communities and the environment from the impacts of destructive mineral development in the US and worldwide. Mammoth Tusk Gold Inc. and EARTHWORKS have recently finalized a cooperation agreement to undertake the following:

Assessing the performance standards and indicators of the Mammoth Tusk Gold Ethical Gold Certification program and determine how such standards could be applied to the development of international certification standard for gold;

Assesing and documenting the best ecological and socio-economic mining practices as used and applied by a Certified Mammoth Gold Producer; and,

Preparing and publishing a report on the result of this case study.

Ttr’ondëkhwëch’in First Nation

The Klondike gold fields lay in the territory of the Ttr’ondëkhwëch’in  First Nation.  The First Nation has settled its Land Claims and is now seeking to capitalize on new economic opportunities.  We are working with representatives of the First Nation to identify roles they can play in the certification program as well as other opportunities associated with responsible mining and sustainable development.

Government of Yukon

A number of government departments and agencies have  responsibilities in regulating the placer mining industry.  We are working with these departments and agencies to ensure compliance with environmental and civil regulations.  They include:

Department of Energy Mines and Resources

Department of Consumer and Protective Services

Yukon Occupational Health and Safety Branch

Department of Environment

Yukon Human Rights Commission

Yukon Workers’ Compensation Board
